Chiller & Cooling Tower Upgrade

Our clients chillers and their associated equipment were at the end of their life.  These chillers provide cooling to the site and are therefore critical to the successful operation of the facility.  To reduce the risk of mechanical cooling failures, upgrading the existing old chillers and their associated equipment was essential.

As part of this scope,  it was identified that the existing secondary pumps are not backed up by UPS power and in the case of a power failure; the AC units in the building would have been unable to circulate chilled water from the storage tanks successfully.  We were required to address the operational risk of overheating during a power failure (before the generators come online).  The installation of a mechanical UPS to support these secondary chilled water pumps enabled cooling is maintained to the building during a power outage.

Key Items replaced and commissioned as part of this project were as follows

  • 2 x 2.8MW chillers (total of 5.6MW) required with 2 cooling towers appropriately rated
  • 2 x new primary pumps
  • 2 x new cooling towers
  • 2 x new condenser pumps
  • Mechanical UPS for secondary pumps
  • 2 x new main switchboards
